Happy Christmas and New Year!!

Wishing all those who may stumble across this portion of cyberspace a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year. Maybe next year this blog may even get some actual updates?! Maybe MSN will flourish and become the thing of beauty and delight of which it is capable!! Here's hoping.

Updates

I have had several hundred emails from people wanting to know when the next exciting instalment of Ligerhunter will be arriving. To these people I say; " I don't really know, its not so much that I have lost interest but that I only have access to a PC at work at the moment and staying on a moment longer than I have to once 6pm comes around it a bit of an effort". To other people I say Ha!

Check out the Ditch Monkey's Blog for a bit of amusment in the meantime.

Well, I suppose this is something. But then, anything is something. Blahblahblah. I am having Liger Hunting withdrawals. Actually, I read somewhere that Ligers are real. Can anyone confirm that?

Of course ligers are real, if impotent, as can be verified at this site: Of Course Ligers Are Real.com

Wow! That's a revelation. There are even tigons!! One question - if we hunt ligers, do we have to kill them? I don't think I'm up for that...

Raison D'Etre

Many, many people (about 3) have been continually badgering me to reveal the purpose of MSN; they have found the clues so far too cryptic and roundabout to actually acertain their meaning. I have therefore decided that some bullet points would probably be the way forward:

Why MSN?
  • To get some guys together to deepen friendships and encourage each other in our faith
  • To provide a safe environment for Napoleon Dynamite quotes to be fully utilised in everyday conversation.
  • Are girls allowed? Yes if they promise to be good and sit quietly.
  • Is the sole prupose to attract members of the opposite sex? NO, this may be a happy conincidence but was never considered to be a primary motivation.

I hope this answers some of your questions. Others have been unsure of how to post a comment. To do this click on the 'x Comments' beneath the post, which should expand the comments for a post. Go to the end of the comments and you should find 'Post a Comment', click on this and do as it says. Happy hunting. Nick

Badgering you? What do badgers have to do with it? Yes, ho ho ho, I'm so funny. Anyhow, what a splendid exposition of the essentials. However, I have not yet seen Napoleon Dynamite. When I nearly rented it from Blockbuster, I opted for Garden State instead. I have to admit that I wish I'd gone for Dynamite. It is a good film, though. Garden State, that is. may platonic love abound between us all!!

gapbetweenthem, I feel that you are in dire need of an MSN training seminar in DVD rental skills. You, my friend, are a man who owns Evil Dead 3 on DVD, but has yet to experience the unmitigated joy that is Napoleon Dynamite. The film will be a success with or without you, but the same statement cannot be said of you without this film.

Nickthebrit, this is a marvellous bit of male initiative. Especially as, as a girl, all I have to do apparently to appreciate your newly learned skills is sit quietly in a swinging chair that a skilled-up chap has constructed from driftwood and secured with trustworthy knots while you cook up a feast on a fire constructed in the rain with only a bit of bracken and spider web for fuel.

aitch, I feel that you have missed the point of MSN. We are not here to provide a basis for some sort of matriarchy(query spelling), as you seem to envision(invision? who nos) us being. we're (at least, I am) against tyranny. And injustice, I don't like that at all.

What the heck is it??!!

I have had some messages of confusion regarding what the point of this blog is. I will therefore attempt to explain myself.

A couple of months ago two of the guys from my church (me being one of them) had parallel experiences where we found ourselves in a social situation as the only male. We realised that this was not good (others may argue but when you think about it will eventually agree). We wondered how this terrible situation could have developed and decided that there was a lack of solidarity amongst our mates, and that this needed to be redressed. Hence MSN, the Male Solidarity Network, was birthed. Its aims are to increase the bonds of friendship between us blokes and to also provide a forum in which skills can be shared. We had only come to realise the importance of skills after viewing the seminal movie Napoleon Dynamite, an event which has changed our lives. Hence if you have not seen this film it is imperative that you go out and buy it and watch it at least twice.

Skills come in many forms (numchuck skills, bowhunting skills...), but are not soley to be acquired in order to impress the ladies (contrary to Napoleon's statement on the matter). In fact skills are a useful tool in spreading the gospel (a separate post to follow on what is the gospel), as a story which Petros related to us (and will hopefully post) shows.

MSN is open to all and a skills acquisition weekend is planned for the near future. Spread the word and email this post to your mates - lets make this the biggest thing since Tamagotchi.

I'm all up for learning new skills. Skills make life run smoother. Some skills are more useful than others but each has its place. Even drum and bass skills. Girls love that one...Ahem.

Is this whole shebang about attracting women? I mean, like, dude, is this mainly a single man thing? Are just, y'know, sublimating?

Gappy,

It's not that shallow, as I find natural wit and charm are more than enough for the attraction of the fairer sex (not to forget chivalry). More about a bunch of guys getting together and sharing skills, for the betterment of the whole human race.

Nicky,

I wasn't saying we're being shallow - far be it from me to suggest such a thing. I was worried about what really drove it. Metaphorically, I mean.
Do you think wit and charm are what women look for?

Tweeny,

I am saddened and at the same time delighted that you have chosen to make your home here in this forum of enligtenment. I think that you need to transcend the mental barriers which have been set up concerning the qualities best found in us by the fairer sex, and alternatively consider what is it that you want?

To be honest I don't give a monkeys cos its been a long day at work and I am tired and hungry (= grouchy) so will have to revisit once I have eaten and consumed.

This don't make no sense....

You're right it don't make no sense, until you watch Napoleon Dynamite and then your eyes will be opened.

i think you're dividing the world arbitrarily into those who have seen Napoleon Dynamite and those who have not? Elitism in action, surely?

A Bold First Step

Hmmm, is it really worth putting this online - will anyone ever read it - can the MSN be an internet based forum? So many questions and yet so few answers.

Praise be! I have waited several hundred years for someone to address what is a miserably deficient area of maleness. Now at last I have like-minded men with whom to share my crafts. These include:
1. Folk song writing
2. Reckless driving
3. Nose excavating
4. Benkwending

I think that the creation of MSN is a noble and presecient move on the part of some fine young fellows. I feel as if it is the flagship of a fleet that has been sighted, when yet the body of the fleet is far behind, thus bringing the promise of security and salvation.
